Sony RM-V40a Remote Instructions

The steps for ENTERING THE CODE NUMBER for the Sony RM-V40A Universal Remote Control are as follows:

  1. Turn the unit OFF.
  2. Slide the switch to desired component (TV, VCR, CBL, AV1, AV2/DBS).
  3. Press the SET button with a ball-point pen tip, etc.,and release it.
  4. Enter the components 2-digit code number.
  5. Press and release the ENTER button to store the code number in the Commander's memory.
  6. Press POWER to see if remote is working properly-the unit should POWER ON.

If the unit does not respond, please follow the same steps and use the next code number. If none of the codes work, follow the Searching steps listed below.

The steps for SEARCHING FOR THE CORRECT CODE are as follows:

  1. Power ON the component you want to set up.
  2. Set the slide switch to the unit you want to set up.
  3. Press the SET button with a ball-point pen tip, etc., and release it.
  4. Press and release the CH+ button.
  5. Press and release the POWER button.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the unit powers OFF. (Pressing the CH+ and POWER buttons repeatedly will try every available code until the correct one is found. It may take up to 50 or 60 tries until the correct code number is located.)
  7. When the component powers OFF, press and release the ENTER button to store the code number in memory.
  8. Press the POWER button to check if the remote commander is set up.

Before you set up your commander to operate components on positions AV1 and AV2, you must first define the type of component you want to use at these positions.

  1. Set the slide switch to AV1, AV2/DBS, or CBL position.
  2. Press the SET button with a ball-point pen tip, etc., and release it.
  3. Press and release the STOP button (button with square).
  4. Enter one of the codes from the table below based on the type of component you are setting up.

  5. Press and release the ENTER button to store the code number in the commander's memory.
  6. Now you may go back and follow procedure for coding in the component.
